ALMONDS

Robijn - Dutch bred, soft-shelled, late blooming, missing frosts; crops well.

CHESTNUTS - These are all Marron types giving 1 large useful nut per cluster rather than a mass of small ones. £29.00

Maraval Precocious, compact and partly self-fertile new variety, cropping mid-season.

Marigoule Early vigorous variety with large nuts, more self-fertile than Maraval. 

Marlhac Early mid season; large mahogany-red nuts that store well. Vigorous tree, a hybrid between the European and an Asian species.

Marsol Early-mid season, large nuts that store well. Good resistance to wet soil diseases, so a good choice for wet sites.

Ennis 

Very large well-flavoured nut, compact bush, needs staking, modest yield. Quality but not quantity.

Gunselbert

Medium/large nut, good flavour; high yield; low vigour, shallow roots; abundant long catkins.

Very large nut & good flavour; needs good drainage & a warm site. Offer price £7.00

Kentish Cob

Large well-flavoured nuts. The UK commercial variety. Pollinators: Nottingham or Cosford.

Lang Tidling Zeller - sold out High-performing German variety, good yields.
Louis Berger Mid season. Large well flavoured nut; square-shouldered and tapering to a point. Vigorous.

Nottingham Cob

Medium sized nut, thick shell; good flavour & yield; excellent pollinator. Young plants £7.00

Purple Leaved

Purple foliage, good ornamental; moderate yield of high quality nuts.

Redskinned Filbert

Ancient variety with red skin on the kernels. Good flavour, late catkins, slender shoots.

Tonda di Giffoni - sold out Italian, mid/late, medium/high yield, large round nut, good flavour, very resistant to Bud Mite.

Webb's Prize Cob

Large long nuts, similar to Kentish Cob but larger clusters; good in north. Young plants £7.00

White Filbert

Medium sized, thin-shelled nut, pale skin on kernel. Excellent flavour, compact bush, suits north.

   
   

Turkish Hazel - Corylus colurna - more tree like than Common Hazel, and less multi-stemmed and suckering. Abundant small nuts used for flavouring and oil. 45-60 cms. £4.00 sold out

TRAZEL - hybrid between Common and Turkish hazels, tall and non-suckering, heavy crops of nuts that fall freely from the frilly husks. Pollinated by other hybrids or either parent. £36.00

Chinoka - Early, heavy crops of medium nuts, ample catkins so a good pollinator.

Freeoka - named after its free falling heavy crops of nuts.

 

GINKGO BILOBA - Maidenhair Tree - 'Living Fossil' with edible nuts on female plants and many herbal uses. Unsexed young plants @ £8.00

Grows well most areas, ornamental blue-grey young leaves, and seems to crop at about 8 years old in the UK.

Compact tree, good yields of large, quality nuts late in season. Self-fertile & precocious. Probably the best choice for a single tree in a UK garden. Canada.

 

Buccaneer

Healthy robust tree, abundant round nuts, particularly good for pickling. Self-fertile. Holland.

Rare old English variety from Somerset, with good quaity nuts.

Vigorous, thin shelled quality large nuts, late season, pollinated by Broadview. France.
